Snow!!!

The first few flakes fell out of the sky on Tuesday afternoon. From inside the clinic on the second floor, I could see them melt when they touched the ground–nothing too serious. But early the next morning, it was an entirely different story. The whole world had turned white overnight. I made my way to the bus stop through the silence of ankle-deep snow in my fabulous sheepskin-lined boots and waited for the bus. And waited, and waited. Finally I realized that even in Germany, the first snowfall of the year had caught the transit system by surprise, and gladly returned to the comfort of my warm, snug home.

After an hour or so, everything was back on schedule, and I arrived uneventfully at the clinic. I couldn’t wait to see how the bus would cope with the now-icy 13% grade hill on the trip home. However, the driver was very skillful, and there was a minimum of slipping and sliding, and just one tense moment on the narrow street when the bus had to unexpectedly yield the right of way to a car.

Speaking of tense moments, my Inner American and I picked up our long-awaited laundry on Thursday. And it was perfect!! No stains, no shrinkage, and folded ever so much more neatly than I could hope to achieve. The only drawback was the incredibly high price. My Inner American is now officially in love with the concept of someone else doing her laundry–but hoping to find a better price!

How beautiful it looks Ruth. I am glad the laundry experience, while expensive, wasn’t painful. I look forward to your postings.

Oh, Snow!! The great equalizer. I hope you continue to enjoy it. I always wonder what is the decision-making process when a bus and a car come eyeball to eyeball with or without snow. The sides of all vehicles should be made of velvet for those close passes.

In case you ever encounter a German laundromat (they exist!) be prepared for surprises. They have an inordinate fixation with ironing everything, even huge things like sheets. In my first laundromat experience I was about to approximate folding and silently slink away when a total stranger grabbed the other end of the sheet. She assumed I wanted to use the enormous mangle and pulled her end toward the machine. Words failed me and I followed. She mangled me through mangeling all of my clothes. Total strangers help each other feed things through a heated drum and into a state of wrinkle-free perfection!!! After that I tried to do washing when the fewest people were there.

I hope your learning adventures at the clinic are superb!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Ruth,

It was so fun to see you at Peter’s clinic!! And I am so glad my daughter and I got out of Germany before the snow hit!!

Our side trip to Rome and Venise were just Fabulous!! We had only one hang up. The plane couldn’t land in Venise bacause of fog. We had to find another way. We ended up going to Liverpool England to get back to Frankfurt before our flight left for the US. Other than that all went well.

We loved the work at the clinic! I am so happy to report Ihave had NO pain in my right hip since the second treatment Heidi came me. It has been wonderful! We are struggling to get our treatments in every week however, we keep working onit.

I love your blog! Please keep it coming!

Love
Sherry and Shilo
