Ultra-thin sterile disposable needles are gently inserted into the skin
and retained 20-40 minutes. There may be a minor pricking sensation at
the moment of insertion, which soon gives way to a feeling of relaxation,
as the body's energy is harmonized.
MOXABUSTION
A preparation of the dried crushed leaves of the mugwort plant, artemesia
vulgaris, is burned indirectly above acupuncture points on the skin.
Moxa produces a penetrating heat that enters the channels to influence
the flow of energy.
CUPPING
A vacuum is created inside a rounded glass cup, which is placed on a lightly
oiled area of the body. The cup is then moved around with the vacuum intact
to encourage the local circulation of blood and energy.
TUI NA
Massage techniques including pressure and manipulation are performed on
acupuncture points to promote the flow of Qi and blood.
HERBAL THERAPY
Chinese herbal formulas based on centuries of empirical knowledge are
specifically matched to each patient's needs. They are primarily plant-based,
but may also contain ingredients from the mineral and animal kingdoms.
Herbs can be dispensed as pills, capsules, tinctures, or in raw form to
be boiled and consumed as tea.
NON-NEEDLE TECHNIQUES
Acupuncture points are stimulated by alternate means such as color or
magnets, which promote the harmonious flow of Qi.
